Sunrise on rocky headland of the Pacific Coast

Sunrise on rocky headland of the Pacific CoastSunrise on rocky headland of the Pacific CoastRocky headlands and offshore rock formations are common all along the Oregon Coast. They provide nesting areas for seabirds. This sunrise shot picks up layers in the sky, purple on top, then an orange glow from the sunrise, then a layer of fog over the ocean and finally a white layer of surf.

A beautiful beginning to a wonderful day.  January on the North Pacific Coast can be almost anything but I had a great day with good weather and started it off with this sunrise shot.  I was reminded of colorful gelatin molds with the stack of different colors and textures.  Dark purple on top, then an orange glow from the sun shining through a gap in the clouds, then a band of fog over the ocean and then a strip of white breakers with surf in the foreground.  These views last only seconds and I was fortunate enough be there.
